Bella's and Edward's Wedding Vows

It was a beautiful day, much in thanks to Alice’s planning.  The dreaded moment was coming near though.  Bella trembled a little, and Edward took her hand, hoping to infuse a sense of calm into her.  She squeezed his hand lightly, and then the minister spoke the words that had her worrying all day.  “The couple has decided to write their own vows to share with us.”  He nodded and Edward took both of Bella’s hands in his and stared into her liquid brown eyes. 

“Bella, from the moment I saw you walk up to my station in Biology, you challenged me.  You challenged me to be stronger, to be a better version of myself.  You challenged me to have faith, in God, in me, and in us.  You challenged me to care, to be happy.  Most of all, you challenged me to keep you alive.”  He winked at her, and there were chuckles among the guests.  “I intend to keep pursuing these challenges.  With your challenges, and your very existence, you have changed me forever.  So I promise my heart, soul and body to you.  I, Edward Cullen, take you Isabella Swan, to be my lawfully wedded wife, my constant friend, my faithful partner, my love from this day forward.  In the presence of God, our family and friends, I offer you my solemn vow to be your faithful partner in sickness and in health, and in joy as well as in sorrow.  I promise to love you unconditionally, to support you in everything, to honor and respect you, to laugh with you and cry with you, and to cherish you for as long as we both shall live.”  

A tear rolled down Bella’s cheek and there was silence all around.  The minister made a clearing sound in his throat.  Still she stood silent.  “Bella,” Edward said, “It is your turn now.”  When she didn’t move, Edward moved in closer.  “Did you change your mind?” he whispered in her ear.  The close contact snapped her out of her daze and she realized it was her turn to talk.  “Sorry,” she said breathlessly.  She turned back to look at Alice.  Only Edward noticed the dark look she gave her maid of honor.  It was Alice’s last minute idea for them to exchange their own vows.  Bella hadn’t been happy.  Edward also saw the smug smile on Alices’s face, as she handed Bella  a piece of paper.  Bella took her hands from Edward’s and unfolded it.  Then taking just one of his hands, she held the paper in her free shaking hand. 

“Edward, I don’t have the ability to remember things as well as you do, so I wrote it down to read to you.” She cleared her throat to proceed.  “When I first learned I was going to write my own vows, I panicked.  I looked at the paper for hours, no words coming to mind.  For in truth, there is no way to describe the way I feel about you.  From the moment I met you, I was changed.  For the first time I wanted someone’s attention on me.  Only yours, though. The first thing I noticed about you was your amazing good looks, and your striking eyes.  But it was your kindness, your attentiveness, your sincerity, and your ability to keep saving me from disaster time and time again, that made me fall in love with you.  Although that is a poor way of saying it.  Because, there are no words that encompass they way I feel about you. I give you my body, heart, and soul.  I have no use for them anyway without you.  I, Isabella Marie Swan, take you Edward Anthony Masen Cullen to be my beloved husband, to have and to hold you, to honor you , to treasure you, to be at your side in sorrow and in joy, in good times, and in the bad, and to love and cherish you always.  I promise you this, from my heart, for all of the days of our lives.”  

By the end of her vows, tears were falling freely down Bella’s cheeks, and anyone who could produce tears, had eyes shining with tears.  For all of Bella’s reservations, she knew she owed Alice a big thanks, and it wouldn’t have to wait ten years or even one.  Before she would leave for her honeymoon, she would tell Alice, once again, that she was right.  Before Angela’s dad could continue with the ceremony, Edward grabbed Bella and they kissed, with all of the love and sweetness their words had earlier shown.  The minister cleared his throat again.  “We will get to that in just a minute.”  The rest of his words didn’t matter to Bella and Edward, the moment they finished their vows, they were in another world.  They only took their eyes off each other when Mr. Weber, said “I now pronounce you man and wife.”  Edward kissed her again.  Bella felt like the luckiest woman in the world, and Edward was the happiest man.
